Christina Oiticica - Sorcerer
For the first time, the artist illustrates a book by her husband, Paulo CoelhoInspired by a German telephone card, the artist Christina Oiticica is off to Europe. In October, that is where she will take her recent production of canvases and objects, Passed and Gathered, the title of her new exhibition, showing a series of mouths which turn into flowers and hearts, with a genuinely feminine delicacy. "I've been collecting cards for ten years and have always wanted to do something with them. But I fell in love with one with a printed mouth and made several versions of them," says Christina, who has other news to tell, or rather show. Married for over 20 years to the writer Paulo Coelho, she is for the first time responsible for the illustrations of a book by him. Histórias para pais, filhos e netos, launched in August by Editora Globo, contains sixteen drawings by Christina Oiticica. "We usually get along well working close to each other, her in the studio and me at my computer. But this time we worked apart," says Paulo Coelho of this experience of sharing a project with his companion. See Also
