O Dia

Births by Oiticica

As they enter the room, the public pass through a narrow installation called Black Cloud, which is the beginning of the journey through paintings, objects and installations. "It is as if it were the path of birth", explains artist Christina Oiticica, who inaugurates today, at 6:30PM, at the Museu Histórico Nacional (National History Museum), the exhibition The House of Time - The Birth of Venus, which has just arrived from Paris.

Christina's work takes as its starting point the painting Nascita de Venere (Birth of Venus) by the Italian painter Botticelli (1445-1510) "The concept of the painting is always present in some form. With contemporary techniques, using feminine signs such as pearls and shells," explains the artist. In the installation Pendulums she uses the scales to represent "maternal comfort and care."

The exhibition is open until 25th November. The Museu Histórico Nacional is on Praça Marechal Âncora, s/nº - Centro. Free admission today and from tomorrow, R$4,00.
