The House of Time (Museu Histórico Nacional) - Christina
Oiticica united objects which were part of the exhibition presented in Paris last
May. In total there are 13 works, 3 portals, 2 objects (tubes with pearls) and
two installations. The paintings are inspired by the famous painting Birth of
Venus, by the Florentine painter Botticelli. All contain the common element of
shells and pearls. Three of them are framed in wooden or acrylic boxes and were
conceived using techniques which blend layers of superimposed paint, collage,
printing on rice paper, etc. The highlight among the installations is Black Rain,
in which threads with tangled knots and pearls fall to the ground. "It is
the uterus, birth, feminine elements," explains the artist. Don't miss the
small details infiltrated in the paintings, such as the key to a hotel room in
Iran.
